Endangered Species - Chimpanzees

Endangered species:
Chimpanzees
Chimpanzees are mainly found in rain forests and wet savannas. While they spend equal time on land and in trees, they do most of their feeding and sleeping in trees, although the number of chimps in the wild is steadily decreasing. The wilderness areas necessary to their survival are disappearing at an alarming rate as more forests are cut down for farming and other activities. This essay will attempt an overview of the reason, effect and solution of disappearing chimpanzees.
There are many reasons why chimpanzees are disappearing. The reason why some of the chimpanzee species are disappearing is that humans are cutting down forests and the trees are being logged for timber and the land is being cleared for farms. Each year the world have been losing about one percent of its remaining forests so this will be hopeless for the future of our environment. The loss of plants and animals will be staggering. For example, their habitat is vanishing at an alarming rate due to deforestation caused by logging companies. They separate populations and then people come in and create a bigger fragmentation by living in the corridor areas. Some people like to live in the corridor areas Especially in Africa the people move with their pets’ animals from one area to another area. We can see every where in the forest is like a fragment. "Logging actually fragments the forest, and that is a very, very serious threat. Enchanted learning, n.d. " But the logging of forests or the clearing areas for farming and settlements is not the only danger to the chimpanzees which are left Humans are also polluting the air and water by creating many things. For example air pollution from the cars, nuclear power, modern technology and other appliances increase thermal pollution of the water. Likewise this creates soil pollution, and air pollution. And also the pollution in the atmosphere is increasing as a result of burning fossil fuels. This burning and polluting activities, cause the chimpanzees habitat food supply to disappear. In addition this pollution has damaged their feeding areas.
Let us turn to the principal effects on chimpanzees. Human hunting is claiming large numbers too. For example some people hunt to eat or for business. Therefore the bush meat trade especially in Africa has led to an increase in the poaching of chimpanzees and other primates. And also they were sold illegally into the pet trade and for entertainment use. On the other hand Chimpanzees also have an effect on other animals by supplementing their diets with meat, such as young antelopes or goats. Their most frequent victims, however, are other primates such as young baboons, colobus monkeys and blue monkeys.

In terms of solutions how we can save the disappearing chimpanzees. We need to learn as much as possible about how we can keep this animal from danger. Also we need to study whole ecosystems. It is very important to protect large areas that are good examples of different habitats and not allow people to live there. More important, though, is developing an understanding of our environment so that we do not jeopardize species in the ecosystems that we live in. It is very important to tell people about the reasons for protecting and also we have to teach the people more and more through education. We should be able to live in harmony without our environment, making use of other species for our needs without causing them to become extinct. Even if we do not know more about it we should try to keep and learn more about their effects. By studying the problems of endanger species, we can learn more about how the world function.

In conclusion this essay has examined the principal reason, fore the disappearance of the chimpanzee, some effects and solutions and how we can save them from extinction or from danger. In short, the wilderness areas necessary to their survival are disappearing at an alarming rate as more forests are cut down for farming and other activities.
